now there's such a thing called the iPill and yes it is a pill! It's function is to direct a pill into the area inside the body where it is needed for the pill to function efficiently. It was created by Philips Research and iPill means "intelligent pill" by the way. To read more about it in MIT review click here.

M2M

not the lesbian singing group but the technology i just learned today. M2M or machine to machine technology is an embedded system that enables two machines to communicate to each other, cool huh? It almost the same as other telemetry/wireless technologies but somehow the name itself and the business it caters is interesting. Want to know more? >> click here ^_^ (this is not a spyware don't worry)

EDIT: M2M is not a lesbian group hehe sorry for the mistake but I was to refer to Tatu.

Keeping Tabs on Tools

A truck-based RFID system could help workers find the right tools.

By Erica Naone

It'll be harder to lose things once containers learn to keep track of their contents. That's the idea behind Tool Link, a product created by Cambridge-based company ThingMagic, working with Ford and toolmaker DeWalt. Tool Link, which will be installed in 2009 Ford Work Solutions E-series and F-series vehicles, can take inventory of the tools packed in a truck using radio-frequency identification (RFID) and alert the user if any are missing.

Tracking tools: ThingMagic’s Mercury5e, above, is the embedded radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology that powers Tool Link, a product that helps users keep track of tools. An RFID reader embedded in a vehicle reads tags on tools in order to sense which ones are in the truck bed. Tool Link will be available in 2009 Ford Work Solutions E-series and F-series vehicles.

Coolness! You could use this in your room especially when you're suspecting that people come and go in your room and take your things without permission haha.

Utmost in your mind is success. You are constantly seeking stimulation and a life full of experience. You are trying to 'grow' and above all you need to develop freely and to shake off the shackles of self-doubt. You are an enthusiastic individual, full of life with the desire to live intensely. You like contact with others and are enthusiastic by nature. You are receptive to anything new, modern or intriguing. Your interests are many and you are likely to expand your fields of activities. You are optimistic about the future and you deserve every success because deep down you are a 'winner'.

You need an atmosphere of peace and quiet and you would like to share a bond of understanding with the 'right person' - you have the belief that with the right person, your stress and anxiety could be minimised.

The way things are, you feel that you are stuck in a rut and there is not much you can do about it. You feel frustrated and inhibited but if you can find a way to let yourself go, you may find that things aren't quite so bad as perhaps you thought they were. One consolation is that since you are an extremely emotional individual, with the right person you may be able to release some of that frustration and tension with some mutual tender loving care.

It is said that we are all influenced by our environment and indeed you are no exception. It would seem at this time that even though you may be surrounded by people, you are experiencing an inner loneliness. Fortunately you are sufficiently strong minded to realise that life has a great deal to offer you and that you may miss your share of experiences if you fail to make the best use of every opportunity. You therefore pursue your objectives with a fierce intensity and are prepared to commit yourself deeply and readily. You believe that whatever you would like to do or think 'you can do' - you do! It is because of this attitude that you may be considered by others as arrogant and even conceited, but its fair to say that whatever it is that you really want out of life you will put your heart and soul into it and will not take 'NO' for an answer.

The fear that you may not be able to fulfil or realise all of your ambitions makes you work and play hard. The thought of being prevented from achieving the things you want leads you to play your part with frantic fervour.

Try it ^_^

"Augmented Reality"

reality ain't much realistic anymore eh?

coolness~! this has been a recent trend in technological research as i have seen it presented in i2r's technology fest yesterday. speaking of which, cool entertaining stuff were demonstrated like the one with the on-screen human tetris. they were using IR similar to this one:

too bad i was't able to document any of these tech fest innovations and too bad it was only held for a day. but anyways, the thing is that technology is advancing with mobile video phones and IR stuff. it would have been fun to create such things if only i'm a programmer guru. too bad i ain't one >.<

Marathon mice: Last year, scientists tested the health effects of resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, that targets the same pathway as the synthetic compound SRT1720. In both instances, mice fed these compounds have increased running endurance. The mouse on the right (fed resveratrol) runs for longer than the untreated mouse on the left.

 The Healthy Skinny Pill

A new drug proves effective in fighting obesity and related diseases while increasing stamina in mice.

By Brittany Sauser

A pill that delivers the health benefits of diet and exercise without any of the effort is one step closer to becoming a reality. European scientists have found that mice fed a high-fat, high-calorie diet and prevented from exercising regularly can be protected from weight gain and metabolic disorders when given a drug that targets a gene linked to longevity. The treatment even increases the animals' running endurance.

The drug was developed last year by Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, based in Cambridge, MA, and preliminary studies of the compound showed it to beeffective in treating mice models of type 2 diabetes, a disease that results in an impaired ability to produce or process insulin, the risk of which increases with age. Now scientists led by professor Johan Auwerx at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), in Switzerland, have shown that the compound involved, known as SRT1720, also blocks weight gain and obesity-related disorders and increases muscle stamina.

I should be purchasing one of these XD harharhar! Wonder how much it costs...

A Robot Music Instructor

A clever flute-playing robot can teach beginners and play in a band.
Thursday, October 30, 2008
By Kristina Grifantini

One of the more whimsical robots presented at BioRob 2008 in Arizona last week, was the latest version of the Waseda Flutist Robot, a robot musician first created in the 1990s. Jorge Solis, a researcher at Waseda University, in Japan, has been working on the robot since 2003, and he and other researchers recently made some important improvements, including adding more than 40 degrees of freedom to its body to make its flute playing more lifelike, and giving it the ability to recognize and interact with other human players. It's given several performances already.

Amazing! Wish i could play like that using the harmonica hehe :D

X-Rays Made with Scotch Tape

Unwinding Scotch tape produces enough radiation to image a human finger.
Thursday, October 23, 2008
By Katherine Bourzac
Credit: Juan Escobar and Carlos Camara

When you bite down on wintergreen-flavored LifeSavers candies in the dark, they glow. The production of light by some materials when under friction or pressure, a phenomenon called triboluminescence, has been known for centuries, mostly as a novelty. Now researchers have shown that rapidly unwinding a roll of Scotch tape inside a vacuum generates not only visible light but also enough x-rays to image a human finger. Led by physicist Seth Putterman at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the researchers are now developing what they hope will be a cheap, simple source of x-rays for clinical imaging.

Talk about innovation eh? I've noticed that people get more and more practical nowadays considering the recessions and the rising of stock market prices...Innovation has been a popular word next to practicality and cheapness of goods hehe. This invention is ineteresting as it uses a sticky tape to capture xray images. I wonder how long will the sticky tape last for this procedure...

Writer's Block: Secret Crush

Everyone knows having a crush at the office or in class can make the time pass a little bit quicker. Is it better to keep your crush a secret or tell them how you feel?

View 501 Answers

Tell them how you feel if it is so overwhelming that you can't contain it anymore ^_^ Keeping your extreme feelings to yourself will hurt your heart literally ( heart and psychotic diseases and the like XD ) It is better to let it out and let them know how you feel than regretting later on that you have never told them. Regret is such a sad word... It is worth a try and it is the only way to know how they feel about you, there's no other way to make sure...It is the act you will most fear but knowing the truth later on is very much satisfying than having assumed things all along ^_^

P.S. It's just my opinion no need to believe in everything I said ^_^

Laid-Back Doer

 Laid-back Doer (LD)
(Take the free personality test and determine your iPersonic type!)

Laid-back Doers are friendly, happy persons. They enjoy being together with other people. Smart, eloquent, witty and charming, they like to be the centre of attraction. They do not like to be alone. Their zest for life ensures that others feel well in their company and that they quickly get to know people. Laid-back Doers get the best out of every moment - many people of this type have a gift for making their whole life one big party. Boredom is unknown in their presence because they are very good at carrying others away with their enthusiasm, their good mood and their optimism.Laid-back Doer

Abstract thinking and profound philosophising about the meaning of life appeal less to Laid-back Doers. They are pragmatic, realistic and live completely in the here and now. At work too, they prefer it when it’s all go and they can act out their purposeful manner to the full. They have no problem handling several tasks at once and they blossom out in crisis situations! A varied field of activity with a lot of social contacts is just the right thing for them. One will also seldom find them inactive in their spare time; due to their open, curious nature, they mostly have many hobbies and interests. They are not afraid of the unknown: as they are flexible and creative, they quickly adjust to new situations and make the best of them. They sometimes come into conflict with strict rules or hierarchies by which they quickly feel constrained and against which they rebel.

As friends, Laid-back Doers are generous, helpful persons who attach great importance to harmonious relationships and a good atmosphere. Their sociable manner means that they have a large circle of friends and they love having the house full of many different types of guests. They are happy to give in to their spontaneous moods and fancies in the just one or two important things. This makes them appear somewhat unpredictable to those with a quieter nature. When it really matters, you can rely on them one hundred percent. As partners, they are creative, impetuous and imaginative - as long as their partner knows how to fascinate them. They can hardly stand boredom or routine in a relationship. They do not like conflicts at all; if a relationship becomes too strenuous or involves too much effort, they tend to withdraw from the partnership and start to look for a new partner. However, if one manages to keep their curiosity alive in the long term and surprise them again and again, one has a loyal and loving partner.
